Rumours have been spreading lately about a possible new destination for NBA superstar LeBron James.  His last few seasons with the LA Lakers have not been satisfactory, and this past season they did not even qualify for the Playoffs, a historic failure given the scale of investment gone into their team.

His last few seasons with the LA Lakers have not been satisfactory, and this past season they did not even qualify for the Playoffs, a historic failure given the scale of investment gone into their team.  Given this situation, ESPN’s Pablo Torre reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers have positioned themselves to have a huge salary cap space next summer.

With LeBron potentially free, and with a young team with great growth, they could opt for the return of ‘King’ James.

Trade reporters come out to deny it

However, NBA trade reporter Marc Stein has explained that the rumours are false.

“Informed sources on the matter emphasise that James is extremely happy in Los Angeles despite two consecutive difficult seasons with the Lakers,” Stein declared.

“He and his family, by all reports, have become increasingly rooted in Southern California since James signed with the Lakers in 2018.”

Another reputable NBA analyst, Brian Windhorst, also asserted that LeBron is focused on Los Angeles and a move to Cleveland is a long way off for now.

James will enter the 20th year of his career next season and also the final year of his contract with the Lakers franchise.

On August 4, James is eligible to sign a two-year contract extension, but there has been no indication of that as of July 2022.
